Event format

Real procedure, from oath to vote

A full simulation of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly with 234 seats, two languages and one Republic Day vote.

Roles

Every Member has a part to play

Speaker & Deputy Speaker

Elected by the House on Day 1; run proceedings, rule on points of order and protect decorum.

Leader of the House

Leader of the party or coalition that commands a majority after Day 1 coalition talks.

Council of Ministers

Up to 10 Ministers who answer in Question Hour and pilot Bills.

Leader of the Opposition

Leads scrutiny, moves amendments and holds the Government to account.

234 Members

Ask questions, raise Zero Hour issues, sit on committees, debate and vote.

Press Gallery

Up to 30 young journalists and creators publishing a live bilingual bulletin.

Non-partisan by design

Four fictional parties, drawn by lot

Members are allotted by lot to four parties named after Tamil Nadu's landscapes. No party wins an outright majority, so on Day 1 the House must negotiate a coalition to form a Government. Each party publishes a one-page manifesto by 22 January.
